Image editor: posts, stories and thumbnails

The image editor makes pictures for your social accounts and your site: a post, a story, a YouTube thumbnail, a pin. It works in your site's colours and typefaces, at each platform's exact size. Making and exporting designs uses no credits; Describe it, which writes three designs from your words, holds a few credits a try.

Start a design

Designs sits beside On the site in a project's Media tab, on every plan, Free included. Owners, Admins and Editors make and change designs. Each design belongs to the project it was made in and uses that site's colours, typefaces and logo.

  1. Click New design

    Where: Designs

The formats open, grouped by platform: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads, Bluesky, Google and Website. Or choose Your own size in pixels, from 64 to 8,192 on each side.

  2. Choose a format and Start

    Where: New design

Each format shows its size and shape, such as 1,080 × 1,920 for a story. Press Start and the editor opens on a blank canvas of that size.

  3. Or start from a template

    Where: Editor

Click Templates under Add and choose one: a quote, an offer, an event, an announcement, a list of tips, a photo with a headline, a photo beside the words, a big number or a question. It is laid out for your canvas in your colours, and every word is yours to change.

  4. Or describe it

    Where: Editor

Click Describe it under Add, say what the post is for and click Write three designs. Click the one you want: it opens on the canvas to change like any other. The section below covers it in full.

The design saves itself a moment after each change. The top bar says Saving soon, then Saving, then Saved. If it says Changed elsewhere, someone else saved the same design meanwhile; if it says Not saved, check your connection before you close the tab.

Describe it: three designs from your words

  1. Open it

    Where: Add, Describe it

Describe the post opens over the canvas.

  2. Say what the post is for

Where: What the post is for

Up to 600 characters, such as “our new Ethiopian coffee is in, 20% off the first bag this week”. Give the facts you want on it: the offer, the date, the time.

  3. Write three designs

    Where: Write three designs

It says Writing three designs from your words. while it works. Three designs come back side by side, at your canvas's size.

  4. Pick one

    Where: Describe the post

Click the one you want. If the canvas already has something on it, Briks asks first: “What is on the canvas now is replaced. Undo brings it back.” Not right? Press Try other words.

Each try holds 2 credits while it writes and is charged what it really cost; what it does not use comes back. It writes from your words, what your published home page and your brief say, the facts and tone your agents keep about the business, today's date, and up to 40 of your workspace's own pictures by what they show. It never makes up a price, a date or a claim you did not give, and it makes no pictures: a picture slot takes one of your own photos.

Add things

Under AddWhat it adds
Headline, Text, LabelWords in your site's typefaces. Double-click them on the canvas to type in place.
PictureA picture from your media library or from any site in your workspace, chosen in the same window as everywhere else (see Media library).
Box, Circle, Line, Triangle, StarShapes. A polygon is in a shape's own settings, under Shape.
ArrowAn arrow in one of seven styles: straight, curved, swoop, loop, zigzag, hand-drawn or bounce. Change its bend, head, tail and line in its settings, and turn it to point anywhere.
BadgeA badge such as 20% off, Sale, New or a price, in one of eight shapes. Its words are sized to fit; change them, the shape, its points and its colours in its settings.
IconOne of 1,512 icons, found by a word such as “coffee”, in six weights.
ShadeA soft dark edge so words read on a photo.
DrawDraw by hand in your brand's colours, Thin, Medium or Thick. Click Done, or press Escape, to stop.
TemplatesA whole layout for this size, as in the first section.
Describe itThree designs written from your words.
LogoYour site's logo, when it has one.

New words, shapes and icons take a colour from your brand that stands out against the background. Choose anything on the canvas to change it in the settings on the right: its place and size, its colours, a shadow, and what its kind has, such as a picture's crop and adjustments or the outline round some words.

Arrange

  • Grid, in the top bar, opens Show grid, Snap to grid and the grid's size. Layers also snap to the canvas's edges and middle and to each other, with a guide shown.
  • Shift-click to choose several layers. Group them (Ctrl+G, or ⌘G on a Mac) to move and resize them as one; double-click a layer in a group to reach it alone.
  • Right-click anything for every action and its shortcut: cut, copy, paste, duplicate, copy and paste style, bring forward or send back, group, align, flip, lock, hide and delete.
  • Drag layers up and down the Layers list to change what sits on top. Hold Alt as you drag on the canvas to leave a copy behind.
  • Covered area shades what a platform's own buttons hide on a story or a cover, so nothing important sits under them.
  • Undo and Redo sit in the top bar, with the zoom beside them.

Export or save it

  1. Click Export

    Where: Top bar

Choose the File: PNG is sharpest and keeps see-through parts, JPEG is smaller and every platform takes it, WebP is smallest but not every platform takes it. Then the Size: the format's own, or Twice for extra sharp screens.

  2. Read the checks

    Where: Export

The dialog warns about anything that will look wrong: an empty design, a layer with no words, a layer outside the canvas, or something under the platform's own buttons.

  3. Download it

    Where: Export

Download saves the file at exactly that size.

  4. Or save it to your media library

    Where: Export

Describe what the picture shows for people who cannot see it, then click Save to media library. From there it can go into a post in the Marketing tab or anywhere else the studio takes a picture.

Copy to another format, in the top bar, makes the same design in another size, each part kept where it is pinned: a portrait post becomes a story with its words still clear of the buttons. Pick the format and press Make the copy.

Your designs

Designs lists every design made for the project. Each card's menu has Open, Duplicate and Remove. Removing a design asks first, and pictures you exported from it stay in the media library.

Do I need a paid plan?

No. The image editor is open on every plan. Only Describe it uses credits.

Can it make photos for me?

No. Designs use your own pictures from the media library or your sites. Upload the photo first, then add it with Picture.
