Website builder for candle makers and home shops

People buy candles and homeware with their eyes and their nose, and a website can only reach one of those. It has to describe scent in words, show the product honestly and make the next step clear. Describe your range and how you sell, and Briks plans the pages, builds them and publishes your site.

Below are templates you can start from, the pages a home brand's site usually needs, and a brief to adapt for your own range.

The pages a candle or home shop's website needs

A home brand sells a feeling, then a product. Tick the pages that fit your range and the sitemap redraws. Briks asks the same question before it builds.

Ember and Oak makes hand-poured rapeseed and coconut wax candles in a workshop in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, started by Lucy Hart in 2021. The range has five scents from the Pennines: moor heather, wet stone, bracken, wild garlic and woodsmoke.

Candles come in two sizes, 180g (£22, about 40 hours) and 300g (£34, about 65 hours), in reusable amber glass, with refill pouches and a gift box of three minis for £28. Wax melts are £8.

We sell at the workshop on Saturdays, at makers' markets, and through twelve independent shops. For now people order online by sending an enquiry, and we invoice them. We also run candle-making evenings for eight people, £55 each.

The site should feel warm, quiet and northern, with close-up photographs of wax and flame, and words that describe each scent properly.

Pages: Home, Products, Gift sets, How it is made, Contact.

Use this brief opens sign-up, then a new project with these words filled in. Change anything before you build.

Why it is written this way

  • Describe each scent in words. 'Wet stone' needs a sentence about rain on gritstone to sell online.
  • Give sizes, burn times and prices. They are the first three things buyers compare.
  • Say how ordering works today. If it is by enquiry and invoice, the site should say so plainly.
  • Mention stockists and wholesale. Shops looking for new brands search for makers like you.

How Briks builds a candle or home shop website

Each step is something Briks does today. Follow a link for the details of each feature, including whether it needs a plan or a switch.

  1. Describe your range

List what you make, the scents, sizes and prices, and how people buy. Briks asks which pages you want before it builds and anything the brief left open, like whether gift sets get a page of their own.

  2. Show it a shop you like

Add a site you admire, with screenshots. Briks reads how the page is put together and builds yours in that spirit, with your products and your words.

  3. Soft colours, readable words

Pale palettes suit home brands and strain the eyes. Briks checks contrast in the code before publishing and on the live page at desktop and phone after the first publish, with a repair if words are hard to read.

  4. Orders and wholesale enquiries

Forms keep every entry in the studio and, once the site is in production, email each one to you.

  5. New scents in a sentence

Launching a winter scent? Type it in the studio chat with its notes and price. Briks builds and publishes it, and every change is a version you can undo.

Advice for selling candles and homeware online

  • Write scent like a place

Nobody can smell a website. Describe each scent as a moment: the room it belongs in, the season, the notes. People choose candles they can imagine, so give them something to imagine.

  • Put burn time next to size and price

A candle's price only makes sense beside its size and burn time. Show all three for every product, in the same order.

  • Show the ingredients honestly

Wax, wick, fragrance and pot. People burn candles in their homes and want to know what is in them. Answer before they ask.

  • Plan for gifting early

Gift buyers arrive weeks before holidays and want to know the last order date. Put it on the gift page early, and update it as the date gets close.

Questions from candle and home shops

Can I sell candles online with a basket and checkout?

Yes, when you ask: Briks builds a basket, a checkout and shipping for posted orders into your site, with one-time payments through your own Stripe, PayPal, Mollie or Razorpay account for candle-making evenings and orders. Or take orders by enquiry form, email or phone, or link to the online shop you already use.

Can I add a new scent myself?

Yes. Describe it in the studio chat, with its notes, sizes and price, and Briks builds and publishes it. Every change is a version you can undo.

Can I use my own product photographs?

Yes. Upload them to your workspace's media library and use them from any project's prompt box. You can replace a picture without asking for a rebuild.

Can shops send wholesale enquiries?

Yes. Briks builds enquiry forms that keep every entry in the studio and email each one to you once the site is in production.
