How it works
Add the site
Paste one address in the new-project steps, with screenshots if you like.
Briks reads it
It studies the page's layout, spacing, type, motion and header, the way a designer would take notes.
It builds yours
Your site follows that rhythm and look, written for your business from your brief.
What Briks reads on a site you like
When you add the address of a site you admire, Briks opens the page and studies it the way a designer takes notes before a project. It reads the layout of each section, the spacing between them, the typefaces and how they are sized, the motion, and the header menu.
It does not take the words or the pictures. Your words come from your brief, and the pictures are for your business, not the reference's. What carries over is the structure and the feel: a quiet, editorial page stays quiet, and a bold page led by big photographs stays bold.
You can add one site per project, plus screenshots. Screenshots help when the page you like sits behind a sign-in, or when you want to point at one part of a page rather than all of it.
Why a reference helps a small business
Most owners know what they like long before they can describe it. "Clean, like that architect's site" is hard to turn into a brief, but an address is precise. Showing Briks a page you admire saves a round of back and forth, because the first version already sits in the family of design you meant.
It also helps you stand apart. If every competitor in your town uses the same template, point at a site from another trade or another country and borrow its rhythm instead. A florist can take cues from a fashion label, and a joiner from an architecture studio.
A reference settles questions before they are asked. When you give one, Briks does not ask you about the layout, the look or what leads the home page, because the site you showed already answers them. It still asks which pages you want.
What to expect, and the limits
A reference sets the direction. Your site carries your own words, your own business details and pictures for your business, so it reads as yours even where its layout follows the page you showed.
Picking a look is not offered when you build from a reference, because the reference already decides how the site looks. If you would rather choose between three looks drawn for your business, leave the reference out and switch on Pick a look in the new-project steps.
After the build, nothing is fixed. Ask for any change in plain words, such as a bigger headline or a different order of sections, and each change is saved as a version you can undo.
Build from a site you like in practice

- 01Pottery studio
Potters who like a gallery's calm
Two potters want their studio's site to feel like the small gallery that sells their work: white space, large photographs, quiet type. They paste the gallery's address and write a brief about their classes, commissions and open studio days. The site follows the gallery's spacing and calm, with their own classes and their own words.

A family law firm that wants to look less stiff
A two-partner family law firm finds that every competitor's site looks alike: navy, a gavel and stock handshakes. The partners add the address of a design consultancy they admire. Briks reads its layout and type, and the firm gets a site in that spirit, written about separation, children and fixed-fee first meetings.
- 03Bed and breakfast
A B&B owner with screenshots, not just an address
The owner of a Georgian B&B saved screenshots of a boutique hotel's home page on her phone. She adds them beside the hotel's address and writes about her rooms, her breakfasts and the walk into town. The build follows the hotel's layout, with her rooms and her words.
