# Website builder for restaurants

A restaurant website answers the same three questions every evening: what is on the menu, are you open tonight, and can I get a table. Answer them on a phone in a few seconds and people come in; send them hunting through a PDF and they book somewhere else. Describe your restaurant in plain words and Briks plans the pages, writes them from your brief, builds the site and publishes it with hosting included.

Below are templates you can start from, the pages a restaurant site usually needs, and a brief you can use as your own starting point.

Start with 50 free credits. No card needed.

## Start from a template

Sites built with Briks. Pick one, tell us about your business, and every page is rewritten for it before it is published.

## The pages a restaurant website needs

Most visits come from a phone, an hour or so before a meal. Tick the pages that fit your restaurant and the sitemap redraws. Briks asks the same question before it builds.

**Your sitemap** 5 pages

**Home**/

**Menu**/menu **Book a table**/book **Find us**/visit **Private dining and events**/events

Briks asks which pages you want before it builds, with Decide for me if you would rather it chose. What you tick here goes into the example brief below.

## An example brief for a restaurant website

Change the details to your own and use it as your starting point. The pages line follows what you ticked above.

Ferraro's is a 48-cover Italian restaurant on Micklegate in York, run by the chef Marco Ferraro and his sister Giulia since 2018. We cook from Puglia: fresh pasta made every morning, fish from the grill and a short list of southern Italian wines.

We are open Wednesday to Sunday, 5pm to 10pm, with lunch from noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Mains are £16 to £28, and there is a set menu at £32 for two courses.

People should be able to book a table online for up to six. Larger groups and the private room upstairs, which seats 18, go through an enquiry form. On Fridays and Saturdays we also take pizza orders for collection, paid online.

The site should feel warm and candlelit, with big photographs of the food and short, generous words. Every dish needs its allergens marked, and the menu should show which dishes are vegetarian or can be made gluten-free.

**Pages:** Home, Menu, Book a table, Find us, Private dining and events.

Use this brief opens sign-up, then a new project with these words filled in. Change anything before you build.

### Why it is written this way

- Name the street and the city. People search for 'Italian restaurant in York', and the words on your pages are what searches match.
- Say how booking works and its limits, such as online for up to six. It decides what Briks builds on the booking page.
- Ask for allergens and dietary marks in the brief. They are easier to plan in from the start than to add dish by dish later.
- Describe the feel in a few words. If you have a site you like, add it in the new-project steps too.

## How Briks builds a restaurant website

Each step is something Briks does today. Follow a link for the details of each feature, including whether it needs a plan or a switch.

1. **Describe your restaurant**

Write what you cook, where you are, your hours and how people book. Before it builds, Briks asks which pages you want and anything your brief left open, such as whether tables are booked online or by request.

[Questions before building *On every plan*](https://briks.dev/features/questions-before-building)

2. **Show it a restaurant you like**

Paste a site whose feel you like, a restaurant you admire or a favourite menu. Briks reads its layout, spacing, type and motion and builds yours in that spirit, with your dishes and your words.

[Build from a site you like *On every plan*](https://briks.dev/features/build-from-sites-you-like)

3. **A menu you can edit yourself**

Ask for the menu as records and every dish, price and allergen sits in the Database tab, where you can open one, change it and save it.

[Your own database *On every plan*](https://briks.dev/features/database)

4. **Bookings and orders, when you ask**

Ask for table booking or orders for collection and Briks builds them into your site. Connect your own payment processor in Project settings and orders are paid online, with no fee from Briks.

[Sign-in and payments *On every plan*](https://briks.dev/features/sign-in-and-payments)

5. **Event enquiries arrive in the studio**

Entries from your private dining and events form are kept in the studio. Once the site is in production, each one is also emailed to you.

[Forms that keep every entry *On every plan*](https://briks.dev/features/forms)

6. **Questions answered after closing**

Switch on the site chat and it answers questions such as 'do you have a vegan menu?' from your published pages, and emails you the ones it cannot answer.

7. **See who visits**

Visitors, pages and sources are counted without cookies, so you can see whether people find the menu and where they came from.

## Advice for a restaurant website that fills tables

- **Never put the menu in a PDF**

A PDF menu is slow on a phone, hard to read with a screen reader and close to invisible in search. Put dishes and prices on the page as text, and change them the day the menu changes.

- **Make tonight's hours impossible to miss**

'Are you open tonight?' is the question a restaurant's site answers most. Put the hours near the top of the home page and on the visit page, in the same words, and change them before every holiday.

- **Mark allergens clearly**

Diners with allergies decide before they arrive. Mark the main allergens and dietary choices beside each dish, and say how to ask about anything that is not listed.

- **Photograph the food you serve**

Stock pictures of pasta look like everyone's pasta. A few honest photographs of your own dishes and dining room do more for bookings than any headline. Upload them to your media library and pick them from the prompt box when you ask for a change.

## Questions from restaurants

### Can people book a table on the site?

Yes, when you ask. Briks builds table booking into your site, with the times and places you set kept as records you can edit in the Database tab, and each place taken only once. Switch on site email and each booking can get a confirmation under your site's name. Or keep a request form and confirm each booking yourself.

### Can customers order and pay for collection?

Yes. Ask for ordering and Briks builds it into your site. Connect your own Stripe, PayPal, Mollie or Razorpay account in Project settings and orders are paid online and appear under Orders in the Database tab, with no fee from Briks. For delivery, ask and Briks builds your areas and delivery charges in too.

### Can I change the menu myself?

Yes. Type the change in the studio chat, such as 'Add a wild mushroom risotto at £17', and Briks builds and publishes it; every change made this way is a version you can undo. If your menu is kept as records, you can also change a dish or a price in the Database tab.

### Will people find my restaurant in search?

Search engines match the words on your pages, so name your city, your street and the food you cook, and keep the menu as text. The preview address Briks publishes to first is kept out of search; publishing to production is a separate step.
