# Website builder for bakeries and cafes

A bakery website has a few jobs, and they are all practical: show what you bake, say when you open, and make ordering ahead easy. Describe your bakery or cafe in plain words and Briks plans the pages, writes them from your brief, builds the site and publishes it with hosting included.

Below are templates you can start from, the pages a bakery site usually needs and why, and a brief you can use as your own starting point.

Start with 50 free credits. No card needed.

## Start from a template

Sites built with Briks. Pick one, tell us about your business, and every page is rewritten for it before it is published.

## The pages a bakery or cafe website needs

Most bakery and cafe sites need fewer pages than people think. Tick the ones that fit and the sitemap redraws. Briks asks the same question before it builds.

**Your sitemap** 5 pages

**Home**/

**Menu and prices**/menu **Pre-orders**/pre-order **Visit us**/visit **Our story**/about

Briks asks which pages you want before it builds, with Decide for me if you would rather it chose. What you tick here goes into the example brief below.

## An example brief for a bakery website

Change the details to your own and use it as your starting point. The pages line follows what you ticked above.

Hearth and Rye is a family bakery and cafe on Broad Street in Ludlow, Shropshire, open since 2015. We bake sourdough, rye and seeded loaves every morning from 5am, plus croissants, cinnamon buns and a few cakes, and we serve coffee from a roaster in the next town.

We are open Tuesday to Saturday, 7:30am to 3pm, and Sunday 8am to 1pm. Closed on Mondays.

The site should help people order bread ahead for Saturday collection; orders close at 4pm on Thursday. Celebration cakes need a week's notice and an enquiry form asking for the date, size, flavour and the message on top.

It should feel warm and floury, with big photographs of the bread and short, friendly words. Our customers are locals, weekend visitors and a few offices that order lunch.

**Pages:** Home, Menu and prices, Pre-orders, Visit us, Our story.

Use this brief opens sign-up, then a new project with these words filled in. Change anything before you build.

### Why it is written this way

- Name the town and street. People search for 'bakery near me' and 'bakery in Ludlow', and the words on your pages are what searches match.
- Give cut-offs and lead times as numbers. A pre-order page is only useful if it says when orders close.
- Say who your customers are. It shapes the tone of the words and which pages come first.
- Describe the feel in a few words. If you have a site you like, add it in the new-project steps too.

## How Briks builds a bakery website

Each step is something Briks does today. Follow a link for the details of each feature, including whether it needs a plan or a switch.

1. **Describe your bakery**

Write what you bake, where you are, your hours and how ordering works. Before it builds, Briks asks which pages you want and anything your brief left open, such as whether cakes need their own enquiry form.

[Questions before building *On every plan*](https://briks.dev/features/questions-before-building)

2. **Show it a bakery you like**

Paste a site whose feel you like, a favourite bakery's or a cafe's. Briks reads its layout, spacing, type and motion and builds yours in that spirit, with your words and your menu.

[Build from a site you like *On every plan*](https://briks.dev/features/build-from-sites-you-like)

3. **Or pick a look**

Without a reference, switch on Pick a look and choose between three looks for your bakery, each with colours, type, corners, a button and cards set with your own opening words.

[Pick a look *Switch it on*](https://briks.dev/features/pick-a-look)

4. **It builds and checks**

Briks builds every page you chose, puts each one in the menu, and checks that words are readable against their backgrounds before publishing, then on the live page at desktop and phone.

[Checks before publishing *On every plan*](https://briks.dev/features/contrast-checks)

5. **Pre-orders arrive in the studio**

Entries from your pre-order and cake forms are kept in the studio. Once the site is in production, each one is also emailed to you.

[Forms that keep every entry *On every plan*](https://briks.dev/features/forms)

6. **Change the menu in a sentence**

A new seasonal bake or a price rise? Type it in the studio chat the way you would tell a colleague. Briks makes the change and publishes it, and every change is a version you can undo.

[Changes in plain words *On every plan*](https://briks.dev/features/changes-in-plain-words)

7. **See who visits**

Visitors, pages and sources are counted without cookies, so you can see whether people find the menu and where they came from.

## Advice for a bakery website that brings people in

- **Write your hours as words**

Opening hours in a photograph or a PDF cannot be read by phones, screen readers or search engines. Put them on the page as text, and change them the day they change.

- **Photograph the real counter**

Stock photos of bread look like everyone's bread. A few honest pictures of your loaves, your shelves and your team at 6am do more for trust than any headline. Upload them to your media library and pick them from the prompt box when you ask for a change.

- **Make ordering ahead obvious**

If pre-orders matter, put the cut-off near the top of the home page and on the pre-order page, in the same words. People skim, and a missed cut-off is a lost Saturday sale.

- **Keep the menu short and current**

A menu with last season's bakes sends people to the counter for something you no longer make. List what you bake most days, and mark weekend-only items clearly.

## Questions from bakeries and cafes

### Can customers pay for pre-orders on the site?

Yes, once you connect your own payment processor in Project settings. The customer pays on the processor's own page, the order appears in the Database tab, and Briks takes no fee. For orders you post, ask for shipping and Briks builds it into your site. Or keep taking payment at collection.

### Can I change prices and opening hours myself?

Yes. Type the change in the studio chat, such as 'Sunday hours are now 8am to noon', and Briks builds and publishes it. Every change is a version you can undo.

### Will people find my bakery in search?

Search engines match the words on your pages, so name your town, your street and what you bake. The preview address Briks publishes to first is kept out of search; publishing to production is a separate step.

### Do I need photographs before I start?

No. Briks makes pictures for the site as it builds, and you can swap in your own from the media library at any time. Real photographs of your bakes are worth adding when you have them.
