# Credits and plans

Everything Briks builds for you is paid in credits. This page explains how a job holds and charges credits, what the studio tells you before a build that needs more than you have, where to see your balance, what happens when it runs low, and what each plan includes.

11 minute read Checked against the studio on 8 October 2026

## What a credit is

A credit is the unit Briks charges its work in: building a site, making a change, checking a published site, an agent's run. Each job is charged for the work it actually took, counted to the hundredth of a credit, so a change that took little work costs little.

Credits belong to a workspace, not to a person. Everyone in the workspace who builds, and every agent it hires, draws on the same balance, and each workspace has its own. Hosting is never paid in credits: a live site stays online whatever the balance.

## Holds: what a job sets aside

Before a job starts, Briks sets some credits aside from your balance. This is the hold. It is not the price: it is what the job may use before it has to draw on the rest of your balance, and it makes sure you can pay for the work before it begins.

| What you do | Credits held |
| --- | --- |
| Build a new project (the first build) | 50 |
| Carry on a first build after an approval step (words, look or hero) | Up to 50: what your balance has, down to 5 |
| Resume a first build that waited for credits | The estimate its card showed |
| Ask for a change in the conversation | 5 |
| Make a template yours | 5 |
| Duplicate a project, or start from a template as it is | 5 |
| Check a published site on its own | 5 |
| Have Briks draft a skill from your description | 5 |
| One run of an AI agent | 3 |
| Draft a new agent from your description | 3 |
| Three designs written from your words in the image editor | 2 |
| A question about a site's visits, past its 100 free ones a month | 1 |
| A post to a platform that charges for each post, such as X | 2 or more |
| Rewrite words with AI in the Visual Editor | Up to 0.20 |
| Write a picture's alt text with AI in the Visual Editor | Up to 0.10 |

Every job is charged for the work it took, whatever it held.

When the job ends, it is charged for the work it took:

- If it used less than it held, the rest comes back to your balance straight away.
- If it used more, the extra is drawn from your balance. The balance never goes below zero.
- If it fails, nothing is charged and the whole hold comes back.
- If you stop it while it runs, you are charged for the work done until the stop. A queued job you remove before it starts is not charged.
- If you chose to have every picture drawn new, each picture is added to the build's charge at the price shown in the **Pictures** step.

The hold is not a quote

What a job holds is not its price. A large first build can cost more than its 50, and a small change can cost much less than 5. For first builds and for changes that add pages, the studio also tells you what builds like it usually take; see estimates below.

Some things hold nothing at all: a question you type in the conversation (other than a paid question about visits), **Publish to production** and **Back to preview**, undo, redo and restoring a version, saving your own edits in the Visual Editor, changing the site's address and replacing a picture from the media library.

A worked example A physiotherapy clinic on Pro

> The clinic's workspace starts the month with its Pro credits. Its new site holds 50 while it builds. While it is still building, the manager types two more messages. The first waits in the queue as a change and holds 5 straight away; the second joins it, so both run together as one change under that one hold.

When each job finishes, it is charged for the work it took and whatever it did not use goes back. The number at the foot of the navigation always shows what is left after the charges so far and any holds still running.

Approval steps on a small balance

Each approval step ends one part of a first build. When you approve the words, choose a look or choose a hero, the next part holds up to 50 credits: what your balance has, as long as it is at least 5. On the Free plan's 50 credits, each stop you add spends a little more of them. See [approve as it builds](https://briks.dev/docs/approval-steps).

## Estimates, and builds that wait for credits

A hold says what a job sets aside, not what it will cost. For the work that varies most, Briks also tells you what builds like yours usually take, worked out from what similar builds cost before. It never shows money, only credits, rounded up to the nearest 5.

- **Before a first build.** On the last step of **New project**, under the Home prompt box, and in the studio's build status while a first build runs, one line appears when building usually takes more than you have, for example 'Building it usually takes about 85 credits after planning, and you have 40.' When your balance covers it, the line does not show.
- **Once planned.** Every first build is planned before anything is drawn or built. If the rest usually takes more than you have at that point, the build stops there. Planning is charged; the plan and everything read so far are kept. The studio says **Waiting for credits**, with a card in the conversation and a bar above the chat box: 'Planned and waiting for credits'.
- **Resume building.** **Get credits** shows the plans with more credits. Once you have them, press **Resume building** on the card or the bar. It holds the estimate the card showed and carries on from the plan, so nothing is read or planned twice. A waiting build never carries on by itself, so credits that arrive later are never spent without you. Pressed while still short, it says what resuming takes and what you have.
- **Your first site on Free.** A Free workspace's first site is built in full even when it needs more than you have, and the line before it starts says so. Later builds wait for credits when they need more.
- **A change that adds pages.** If it usually takes more than you have, it is refused before it starts, with the estimate, and nothing is held. Other changes simply hold 5.
- **Reminders.** When a build starts waiting, the bell says so and the workspace's Owners and Admins get an email. If it is still waiting, they are reminded after 3 and 14 days.

A build that waited A florist's third site on Pro

> Late in the month the workspace has 26 credits left. The new site is planned, then the card reads: 'Your site is planned. Building it needs more credits. Building, the pictures and publishing usually take about 70 credits, and you have 26.'

The owner pressed Get credits and moved up a plan, so the extra credits arrived at once. Resume building carried the site on from its plan, and it published an hour later. Nothing was planned twice.

## Where to see your balance

- **The foot of the navigation**: **Credits**, with the number left rounded down to a whole credit and a row of ten bricks. Click it to open Billing.
- **Home**: the **Credits** card shows the exact balance and a bar for each of the last 30 days showing what was used.
- **Billing**: **Credits left**, under **Your plan**, and on a paid plan when the next credits arrive.
- **Before you start a project**: the Home prompt box and the last step of New project both say what a build holds and what you have.
- **Each project card**: the credits that project's work has used so far.

## When credits run low or run out

When 10% or less of your plan's monthly credits is left (on Free, of the 50 you started with), the bricks turn to the warning colour and the number reads 'running low'. A banner above every page says how many are left, that builds, changes and agents stop when they run out, and that your sites stay live. Owners see **Get more credits** in it; everyone else is asked to tell the owner. Close it with the cross and it stays away for the rest of that browser session.

Once a month, when the balance first gets that low, the workspace's Owners and Admins also get an email and a notification in the bell. On a paid plan, it says when the next credits arrive.

If your balance is less than a job's hold, the job does not start and nothing is taken. The studio tells you why, with a message such as 'Change holds 5 credits while it runs and your balance is 3.40.', and opens a window that puts forward the smallest plan with more credits. See moving to a paid plan.

At zero, you lose nothing you already have:

- Your published sites stay online, with their forms, analytics and stored records.
- Questions in the conversation are still answered.
- You can still publish to production, go back to preview, undo, redo and restore versions.
- Your projects, versions and settings stay where they are until you have credits again. Agents stop their runs until then.

## When credits arrive

- **Free**: 50 credits once, with the first workspace you own. There is no daily or monthly grant, and these 50 do not expire. A second workspace you create starts with none.
- **Paid plans**: the plan's credits arrive each month on the day the plan started. A plan started on 14 October gets them on 14 November, 14 December and so on; one started on the 31st gets them on the last day of shorter months. Each month's credits stay usable for two months, then whatever is left of them expires. The credits that expire soonest are spent first.
- **Moving up a plan**: the extra credits for the rest of the month arrive as soon as you upgrade.

Credits are not sold on their own: they come with a plan. If you need more than the largest plan gives, write to hello@briks.dev.

## Plans

A plan belongs to a workspace. It sets the monthly credits and how many projects, domains and how much storage the workspace may have.

| Plan | Price a month | Credits a month | Projects | Own domains | Storage |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Free | $0 | 50 once | 1 | 0 | 500 MB |
| Starter | $16 | 175 | 1 | 1 | 5 GB |
| Pro | $29 | 400 | 3 | 3 | 10 GB |
| Studio | $79 | 1,200 | 10 | 10 | 25 GB |
| Agency | $199 | 3,000 | 30 | 30 | 100 GB |

Projects are websites, web apps and dashboards: all count.

Every plan, Free included, gets a `briks.live` address for each site, analytics counted without cookies, forms, the chatbot and the image editor. There are no seat fees: each plan includes its team members. A few allowances grow with the plan:

| Allowance | Free | Starter | Pro | Studio | Agency |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Team members, you included | 1 | 1 | 3 | 10 | 25 |
| AI agents per project | 0 | 3 | 5 | 10 | 15 |
| Social accounts per project | 0 | 3 | 5 | 15 | 50 |
| Site emails a month | 300 | 2,000 | 5,000 | 15,000 | 50,000 |
| Scheduled tasks per project | 1 | 5 | 10 | 25 | 50 |
| Webhooks per project | 1 | 5 | 10 | 25 | 50 |
| Scheduled runs and webhook calls a day, per project | 2,000 | 5,000 | 10,000 | 50,000 | 100,000 |
| Database downloads and nightly copies | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |

| Visual Editor | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Built with Briks badge | Always shown | Off, unless you switch it on | Off, unless you switch it on | Off, unless you switch it on | Off, unless you switch it on |

Each paid plan can also be paid yearly, with 2 months free: Starter $160, Pro $290, Studio $790, Agency $1,990 a year. Prices exclude tax, which is added at checkout where it applies. The same plans are on the [pricing page](https://briks.dev/pricing).

## Moving to a paid plan

A plan belongs to one workspace, so switch to the workspace first if you have several.

1. Choose the plan

   Where: Billing

Pick **Monthly** or **Yearly** above the plans, then press the plan's button, such as **Choose Pro**.

2. Pay at checkout

   Where: Checkout

Enter your payment details. Tax is added where it applies, and the receipt comes by email. You come back to **Billing**, which says 'Payment received. Your plan appears here in a moment.', then shows the new plan, and that month's credits appear in your balance.

3. Check the new limits

   Where: Home

The plan card on Home shows the new allowances for projects, custom domains and storage.

You can also start from wherever Briks stopped you. When a job is refused for credits, or you reach a limit such as projects or domains, a window opens with the smallest plan that lifts it, its price as the difference from today's, and **Upgrade to** that plan. When it is about credits on a paid plan, it also says when your next credits arrive, in case you would rather wait. **Not now** closes it, and your sites stay live either way.

Good to know

Only an Owner can choose, change or cancel a workspace's plan. On a paid plan, Billing also moves you up at once, down at the end of the period, or cancels. See [billing](https://briks.dev/docs/billing).

### Do unused credits carry over?

On a paid plan, each month's credits stay usable for two months from the day they arrive. The Free plan's 50 do not expire.

### Can I buy credits on their own?

No. Credits come with a plan. To get more, move to a plan with more credits: the extra credits for the rest of the month arrive as soon as you upgrade.

### Can I see what a build will cost before it runs?

Not exactly, because each job is charged for the work it took. When a build or a change that adds pages usually takes more than you have, the studio says so first, with an estimate from builds like it.

### Are credits shared between my workspaces?

No. Each workspace has its own plan and its own balance.

### Why did a job cost more than its hold?

The hold is set aside before the work starts, and the work turned out larger. The extra came from your balance.
