# Create your account

A Briks account is an email address and a password, or your Google account. This page walks through signing up, confirming your email, signing in and joining someone else's workspace from an invitation, and explains where your first 50 credits come from.

Go to `app.briks.dev/signup`, or use any of the sign-up buttons on briks.dev. The form asks for three things and needs no card.

Make the account

1. Enter your name

   Where: Create your account

**Your name** is optional. It is how teammates see you, and it names your first workspace. Leave it blank and Briks uses the part of your email before the @ sign.

2. Enter your email

   Where: Create your account

Use an address you can open now, because you cannot sign in until you confirm it. If you were invited to a workspace, use the address the invitation was sent to.

3. Choose a password

   Where: Create your account

**Password** needs at least 8 characters, and the line under the field counts down how many are left. The eye button at the end of the field shows what you typed; press it again to hide it.

4. Press Create account

   Where: Create your account

The form changes to **Check your inbox**, with the address the link went to. Nothing else happens until you open that email.

By continuing you agree to the [Terms](https://briks.dev/terms) and the [Privacy Policy](https://briks.dev/privacy). You need to be 18 or over to use Briks.

**Continue with Google**, at the top of the sign-up and sign-in forms, does the same in one step: choose your Google account and you are in, with no password to make and no email to confirm, because Google has confirmed the address. If you already have a Briks account with that email, Google signs you in to it.

## Confirm your email

Briks sends one email with the subject 'Confirm your email for Briks'. It holds a single link, **Confirm my email**, which works for 24 hours.

1. Open the email

   Where: Your inbox

If it is not in your inbox, look in spam and any other folders your email sorts things into.

2. Click Confirm my email

   Where: Your inbox

The link confirms the address, signs you in on that browser and takes you on: to **New project** if you started from a description on briks.dev, back to the invitation if you came from one, and to **Home** otherwise.

3. Arrive in your workspace

   Where: Home

The first time you arrive, Briks makes a workspace for you, with you as its Owner and 50 free credits in it.

If the link expired or never came

Go to the sign-in page and sign in with your email and password. Because the address is not confirmed yet, Briks sends a fresh link instead of signing you in, and shows **Check your inbox** again. If you typed the address wrong, **try again** on that screen takes you back to the form.

Tip

Open the link on the computer you plan to work on. It signs in whichever browser opens it, so clicking it on your phone signs you in on your phone.

## Bring your brief from briks.dev

If you typed a description into the box on briks.dev before signing up, it comes with you. The sign-up page shows it under **Your brief**, with the line 'Your first project starts from these words. You can change them before anything is built.' On a phone, the brief sits in a strip above the form.

After you confirm your email, the link opens **New project** with the description already waiting in the **Describe it** step, along with anything else you chose on briks.dev: the kind of project, a site you like, or picking a look first. Up to 2,000 characters of the description carry over.

Brief carried over A mobile dog groomer in Bath

> Typed on briks.dev before signing up: 'A mobile dog grooming van in Bath. Prices for small, medium and large dogs, the areas we cover, and a booking request form. Friendly and bright, lots of photos of happy dogs.'

The sign-up page showed the words under Your brief. After confirming the email, New project opened at its first step asking for a name, with the description already in place on the next step.

Tip

Nothing is built or charged until you press **Build it** at the end of New project. The carried-over words are a starting point you can rewrite, not a commitment.

1. Open the sign-in page

   Where: app.briks.dev/login

Or follow **Sign in** under the sign-up form, next to 'Already have an account?'.

2. Enter your email and password

   Where: Sign in

The same eye button shows or hides the password as you type.

3. Press Sign in

   Where: Sign in

You go straight to where you were heading, or to **Home**.

You stay signed in on that browser. A session that goes unused for 30 days ends, and you sign in again. To see where you are signed in, or to sign out everywhere else, open **Profile** from your name at the foot of the navigation and look under **Signed-in devices**.

Where

1. Your name
2. Profile
3. Signed-in devices

## If you forget your password

On the sign-in page, choose **Forgot password?** and enter the email you sign in with. If that address has a Briks account, we email it a link to choose a new password. The link works for an hour and only once; ask for a new one if it has expired. Setting a new password signs your account out on every device, so you then sign in again with it. If you are still signed in somewhere and just want a different password, change it from **Profile**: under **Password**, enter your **Current password**, then the **New password** and **Confirm new password**, and press **Change password**. Tick 'Sign out of other devices. This one stays signed in.' if you think someone else knows the old one.

If you are signed out everywhere and cannot remember it, write to hello@briks.dev from the address you signed up with and ask for help getting back in.

## Join a workspace from an invitation

When someone adds you to their workspace, you get an email saying who invited you, to which workspace and with which role. The link works for 7 days and only for the address it was sent to, so a forwarded link does nothing for anyone else.

1. Open the link

   Where: Join a workspace

The page reads **Join** followed by the workspace's name, with a line such as 'Ana invited you@yourbusiness.com as an Editor.'

2. Create an account or sign in

   Where: Join a workspace

If you are not signed in, choose **Create an account to join** or **I have an account**. Your email is filled in. A new account confirms its email first, and the confirmation link brings you back to this page signed in.

3. Join or decline

   Where: Join a workspace

Press the **Join** button with the workspace's name, or **Decline**. Joining opens that workspace's Home, and you can start working at once. If the workspace has no room left for another person on its plan, joining is refused until its Owner makes room or moves to a bigger plan.

Signed in as someone else?

If you are signed in with a different address, the page says so and offers two buttons: **Sign in as** the invited address, or stay as you are. The invitation only ever works for the address it names.

If the page says the invitation has expired, has already been used or was withdrawn, ask the person who invited you for a new one. From **Members** they can **Send again**, or **Renew and send again** once it has expired. Your role decides what you can do in their workspace: an Editor creates, changes and publishes projects, and a Viewer sees projects, previews and analytics but changes nothing. See [members and roles](https://briks.dev/docs/members-and-roles).

## Your first workspace and the free credits

A workspace holds projects, members, a plan and credits. The first time you arrive, Briks makes one for you, named after the name on your account, with you as its Owner. You can rename it in **Settings**.

The Free plan gives 50 credits once, with the first workspace you own. There is no daily or monthly top-up on Free, and these 50 do not expire. They come once per person: deleting that workspace and making another does not bring them back, and any further workspace you create starts with none until it has a paid plan.

Joined by invitation first?

If your first step was joining someone else's workspace, no workspace of your own is made, and you build with that workspace's credits. Your own 50 free credits arrive when you create your first workspace, from the workspace menu at the top of the navigation, with **Create workspace**.

Two people, two paths A wedding photographer and her assistant

> Maya signs up from the box on briks.dev. Her account gets a workspace called Maya Okafor, with 50 credits. She moves it to Pro, which has room for 3 people, and invites her assistant Tom as an Editor. Tom creates his account from the invitation link, confirms his email and joins Maya's workspace.

Tom builds and changes Maya's site using Maya's credits. He has no workspace of his own, and no free credits of his own, until he creates one.

A new site holds 50 credits while it builds, so the free credits are enough to start one first build. What the build does not use comes back to the balance, and a Free workspace's first site is built in full even when it takes more than you have. [Credits and plans](https://briks.dev/docs/credits-and-plans) explains how the rest works.

### Can I sign up with a Google or social account?

Google, yes: press **Continue with Google** on the sign-up or sign-in form. No other account, such as GitHub or Apple, can be used to sign in. An account made with Google keeps your Google address as its email, so it cannot be changed on **Profile**.

### Do I need a card to start?

No. The Free plan needs no card. You pay only if you choose a paid plan in **Billing**.

### Can I change my email later?

Yes, if you sign in with a password. On **Profile**, under **Email**, choose **Change email**. Briks sends a link to the new address, and the change happens only when you open it. Until then you keep signing in with the old one. An account that signs in with Google uses the Google account's address, which cannot be changed here.

### I never got the invitation email.

Ask the person who invited you to check the address in **Members** and press **Send again**. They can also use **Copy invitation link** and send it to you another way; it still only works for the invited address.
