Website builders with AI

# Briks vs WordPress.com

WordPress.com is managed WordPress: posts and pages on every plan, 60,000+ plugins from Personal, payment buttons from Premium and WooCommerce on paid plans, content export in a standard format on every plan, and an AI builder on paid plans with the WordPress Agent to edit pages when you ask. Briks builds and hosts a designed site or app from a brief or from a site you like, checks contrast before it publishes, and turns every plain-word change into a version you can undo. Pick WordPress.com for blogging, plugins and a low entry price; pick Briks if you want the site designed and built for you without learning WordPress.

As of 8 October 2026. Products change, so check their site before you decide.

01 Building

## Building: the WordPress way or the Briks way

WordPress.com's AI builds a site you then manage in WordPress; Briks designs and hosts it end to end.

WordPress.com's AI website builder generates pages, layouts, images and copy from a prompt, which you refine by chat or by hand. It needs a paid plan, and the AI flow does not include ecommerce. After that, the site is a WordPress site, with all the editor's options and its learning curve.

Briks starts with a brief on every plan, Free included, and asks which pages you want and what is unclear. It can design from a site you like, reading its layout, spacing, type, motion and header menu, and it checks contrast before publishing. There is no theme or plugin to choose; the site is built for your business.

Example: a local accountant

With WordPress.com

Generate the site with AI on Personal or above, then add a contact form plugin and a booking plugin from the plugin library.

With Briks

Describe the practice and add a professional site you like. Briks builds the pages with an enquiry form whose entries are kept in the studio and emailed to you in production.

02 Hosting

## Hosting and domains

Both host on every plan; WordPress.com domains start on Personal, Briks's on Starter.

WordPress.com includes managed hosting, a CDN and SSL on every plan. The Free plan uses a wordpress.com subdomain, shows ads to visitors, and allows 1 GB of storage and no plugins. Your own domain starts on Personal, with a free domain for the first year on annual and multi-year plans.

Briks hosts every site on every plan. A first publish goes to a preview at the site's own briks.live address, kept out of search, and Publish to production runs a launch check. Your own domain starts on Starter; you add three records and the certificate is issued and renewed automatically.

03 Changes

## Changes: by hand, by agent, or in plain words

WordPress.com's agent edits on request; Briks makes every change a version.

On WordPress.com you edit in the WordPress editor, or ask the WordPress Agent to draft pages, update copy or generate images; it can also check stats or draft posts from Telegram or a forwarded email. Two reviewers say customising pages is hard for beginners, though one of those reviews dates from 2021.

On Briks every change starts as a sentence in the studio chat. It is built, published and saved as a version you can undo, redo or restore, and you can A/B test a saved version against the live one. Questions about your site are answered without a build.

04 After launch

## After launch: blogging, selling and visitors

WordPress.com blogs and sells; Briks counts visitors without cookies and has a site chat.

WordPress.com is a publishing platform first, with posts and pages on every plan. Payment buttons for PayPal and Stripe start on Premium, WooCommerce runs on paid plans, and Commerce, at $45 a month billed yearly, comes with WooCommerce installed. The WordPress Agent acts when asked; no autonomous agent was described.

Briks counts visitors, pages, sources, referrers and UTM tags without cookies, can answer visitors from your published pages with an optional chat, and keeps form entries in the studio. It takes one-time payments and subscriptions through your own processor. On paid plans, its agents include Articles, which writes regular posts for the site's blog.

05 Pricing

## Pricing

WordPress.com Personal is $9 a month or $4 billed yearly; Briks Starter is $16.

WordPress.com Personal costs $9 a month, or $4 a month billed yearly, with lower monthly rates on two- and three-year terms. Plans are flat subscriptions, and the guided AI builder has usage limits on Personal. It is one of the lowest entry prices in this comparison.

Briks Starter is $16 a month for 175 credits, 1 site and 1 domain, and Pro $29 for 400 credits, 3 sites and 3 domains, with Studio at $79 and Agency at $199. Briks Free gives 50 credits once and one site. AI work is paid in credits per job. Paying for a year gives 2 months free, and paid plans are bought online at checkout.

06 Ownership

## Ownership and portability

WordPress.com content exports in a standard format; Briks downloads its own files and its records on paid plans.

WordPress.com exports posts, pages, comments and links to media as a WordPress XML file on any plan; themes, design and plugins are not included. Business and Commerce add full backups, SFTP and SSH, WP-CLI and Git. Each site has one MySQL database, with phpMyAdmin on Business and Commerce.

Briks downloads your site's own files as a zip, without the shared parts every Briks site runs on, so it does not run on its own. On a paid plan, database records download as JSON or CSV, up to 50,000 per collection. Form entries are kept in the studio and cannot be exported.

## What reviewers raise about WordPress.com

These points come from named reviewers, linked and dated, and only where more than one source agreed. They describe some people’s experience, not everyone’s. Some reviewers publish their own tools, and older reviews may predate WordPress.com’s current plans.

- Customising pages is hard for beginners.

  - Customising pages can be difficult [Mike Williams, TechRadar, 17 June 2021](https://www.techradar.com/reviews/wordpresscom)
  - Steep learning curve for beginners [Kamso Oguejiofor, Website Planet, 11 February 2026](https://www.websiteplanet.com/website-builders/wordpress/)

**On Briks:** On Briks you customise by describing what you want; each change is built and saved as a version you can undo.

### Where WordPress.com is strong

- Plugin installation (60,000+ plugins) from the Personal plan. [Source](https://wordpress.com/pricing/)
- Content can be exported at any time in a standard WordPress format. [Source](https://wordpress.com/support/export/)
- A low entry price: Personal at $4 a month billed yearly. [Source](https://wordpress.com/pricing/)

## Who should choose which

An honest split. If the left-hand list describes you better, WordPress.com is the better choice today.

### Choose WordPress.com if

- Your site is mostly a blog or publication.
- You want plugins for features nobody has built for you.
- You want the lowest entry price and content you can export to any WordPress.
- You want WooCommerce for an online store.

### Choose Briks if

- You do not want to learn WordPress, themes or plugins.
- You want the AI builder on the free plan as well.
- You want your site designed from one you like and checked before it publishes.
- You want every change kept as a version you can undo or test.

## Moving from WordPress.com to Briks

WordPress.com lets you export your content as WordPress XML, but Briks builds from a brief, so the move is a rebuild with your WordPress.com site as a reference for the look.

1. **Gather what you want to keep**

Copy the words from your WordPress.com site that you want on the new one, and collect any pictures you own.

2. **Upload your pictures**

Add them to your Briks media library, where any project's prompt box can use them.

3. **Start a new project with a brief**

Describe the business and paste in the words you are keeping. Briks asks which pages you want and anything the brief leaves open.

4. **Add your WordPress.com site as a reference**

Paste its address as your project's reference site. Briks reads its layout, spacing, type, motion and header, and builds a new site in that spirit with your words.

5. **Check the preview**

The first publish goes to a briks.live preview kept out of search. Ask for changes in plain words; each one is a version you can undo.

6. **Publish to production**

A launch check runs first, including links that go nowhere.

7. **Connect your domain on a paid plan**

On Starter or above, add an A record, a CNAME for www and a TXT record. The certificate is issued and renewed automatically. Paid plans are bought online at checkout.

### Good to know

- Copy the pages you want to keep into the brief. Blog archives are better left on WordPress or rewritten as pages.
- WooCommerce stores do not carry over; on Briks, payments go through your own processor, and shipping is built into the site when you ask.

## Common questions

### Is Briks easier than WordPress.com?

Briks has no theme or plugin to learn: you describe what you want, and on paid plans you can change words, colours and spacing on the page itself. WordPress.com gives you the whole WordPress toolset, which reviewers say can be hard for beginners to customise.

### Can I blog on Briks like on WordPress.com?

Not in the same way. WordPress.com is built around posts and pages on every plan. On Briks paid plans, the Articles agent writes posts for your site's blog and asks before publishing them, and first asks to add a blog if the site has none.

### Which is cheaper?

WordPress.com Personal is $9 a month, or $4 billed yearly. Briks Starter is $16 a month, or $160 a year. Briks's Free plan includes the AI builder; WordPress.com's AI builder needs a paid plan.

### How do I add features on Briks without plugins?

You ask for what you need in plain words, and Briks builds it into the site as a new version. WordPress.com installs plugins from Personal.

### Can I export from Briks like from WordPress.com?

On a paid plan, Briks downloads database records as JSON or CSV, and it downloads your site's own files as a zip that does not run on its own. WordPress.com exports content as WordPress XML on every plan.

### Does WordPress.com have an AI agent?

Yes. The WordPress Agent drafts pages, updates copy and generates images when you ask. Briks agents, on paid plans, work on a schedule and ask before they act.
